More than 100 Myanmar refugees recently entered Mizoram

More than 100 refugees recently entered Mizoram because of the ongoing conflict in Chin state. Many people stayed in the border areas trying to enter.

The conflict between Chinland Defence Force (CDF) allied with Chin National Front (CNF) and the Tatmadaw forced the civilians to flee in the Indo-Myanmar border areas in Champhai District, Mizoram. Chawngtui area received around 300 refugees. Around 60 people stayed in Vaphai Area while the neighbour village Farkawn already sheltered around 100 refugees.

Farkawn Joint YMA President K. Lalmuankima told Maipawl, “Because of the pandemic restriction by the government, only children and older people only crossed the boundary. Around 100 people are still waiting to enter Mizoram.”

Farkawn used community halls as refugee camps, most of which are already fulled said K. Lalmuankima.

“Since the Tatmadaw reinforced its troops in Chin state and the conflict occurred more frequently, I think more refugees will come.” MC Lalramenga, President, Tuipuiral Group YMA said. “Chin National Army members are trying to send their families to Mizoram as their relationship with the Tatmadaw deteriorates,” he said.

Tuipuiral Group YMA planned to set up a relief camp in Zawlsei. Farkawn, Vaphai, and Chawngtui will set up camps. They will get the Covid-19 test and will move to Zawlsei relief camp.
